The Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to remove Babatunde Irukera from his position as Executive Vice-Chair of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCP).

Tinubu sent a letter to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, stating that he wanted Irukera fired due to his lack of effectiveness.

According to the FCCPC Act, the President must have the National Assembly’s approval to dismiss the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission.

Despite Tinubu already firing Irukera and another official in January, the Senate still needed to approve the decision.

After discussions, the Senate voted in favor of Tinubu’s request, and the Senate President officially approved the decision by hitting the gavel.
