Following an inspiring performance that propelled Liverpool to a vital but spirited victory over Newcastle, Mohamed Salah now feels that Liverpool can win the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp’s team earned a thrilling 4-2 victory at Anfield on New Year’s Day to go three points ahead. Salah overcame a first-half penalty miss to score twice and set up another.
In preparation for the African Cup of Nations, it was his last game before he joined Egypt.
Salah stated to Sky Sports, “We’re happy with the outcome.” We managed to gain three points in a very competitive game, and as a result, we are currently leading the standings. We must maintain our composure and win each game.
About his team’s chances of winning the championship, he continued, “We believe a lot.” On the pitch, we must put forth a lot of effort and express ourselves. We can continue to win if we can accomplish it and put in a lot of effort.
After seeing his first of two spot kicks during the game thwarted by outstanding Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, Salah was relieved that his club career would not end on a negative note.
“I missed the pen—I didn’t want to leave with the national team after that performance,” he remarked.
“I was confused on the first one because the goalie moved, but on the second one, I performed as I had practiced.”
Early in the second half, Salah scored the first goal through a tap-in. Alexander Isak immediately cancelled out that effort, but Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo gave Liverpool the lead.
After Dubravka fouled Diogo Jota, Salah completed the victory the home team—who had 34 shots—deserved. Sven Botman pulled another one back.
