The National Security Adviser (NSA) has called in Jim Obazee, the Special Investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu, to investigate the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Previous reports have raised concerns about alleged witch-hunting, extortion, and undue intimidation by Obazee’s team, even after his official term had ended.

President Tinubu appointed Obazee as a special investigator for the CBN under Emefiele in a letter dated July 28, 2023.

Obazee and his team completed their investigation, accusing the former CBN governor of misusing funds through contract scams and other fraudulent activities.

However, Obazee’s presidential mandate ended on December 1, 2023, as stated in a letter dated November 29, 2023.

Despite the end of his mandate, there are reports that Obazee’s team continued unauthorized operations.

According to Daily Nigerian, the NSA has summoned Obazee and instructed him to return all government property in his possession, including official vehicles provided for his work.

According to a source from the NSA’s office, as mentioned in the report, “Jim Obazee and his team were summoned on Friday by Office of the National Security Adviser and was asked return all government property in his possession. This includes the official vehicles given to him to aid his operations, and others.

“He was stripped of all his powers and the presidential mandate as the CBN investigator, so to speak.”
