Displaced people in Borno State are frustrated and considering going back to areas controlled by Boko Haram.
The individuals fled to camps because of the insurgency, but now they are thinking about returning due to hunger and difficult living conditions.
Reports show that many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and even relatives of former Boko Haram members are making similar threats.
They are unhappy with the lack of support from authorities, especially when it comes to basic needs like food.
Some IDPs and relatives of former insurgents believe life was better under Boko Haram rule and find the current camp conditions unbearable.
The lack of necessities and the inability to farm have worsened the situation for the displaced population.
A resident in one of the IDP camps, expressing the prevailing sentiment, lamented, “We took the decision to leave our families behind and relocate to the Boko Haram-controlled area because it is all about dying whether here or there.”
The families of former Boko Haram fighters are saying that the difficult conditions in the camps are making them think about going back to the areas controlled by the insurgent group.
In response, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum rejected the complaints as unfounded, saying, “Those who want to return to Boko Haram in the bush are free to do so.”
