Hundreds of women, men, and youths gathered on the streets of Edo State to protest the attempt to impeach Edo State’s deputy governor, Philip Shaibu. .

The protesters, organized by the Peace Movement and PDP Faithful, came together in Auchi, Etsako West local government area in Edo North Senatorial District.

They expressed their opposition to the impeachment process by the Assembly, holding placards with various messages such as “No to impeachment”, “We want peace in Edo State”, “Return the N500 million bribe to Obaseki”, “Shaibu is our Next Governor, no going back”, among others.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Mr. Aminu Umosor, Gafata Emmanuel, and Hajia Anetu Momodu stated that they will rally the people of the state and the PDP to oppose the party if they proceed with the planned impeachment of Philip Shaibu as the deputy governor of Edo State.

They noted that they want to show all Edo people that they support Philip Shaibu and the mandate given to him. They emphasized that if Governor Obaseki and the House of Assembly are open to dialogue and genuine reconciliation, they should approach the situation with honesty and not with an impeachment notice.

However, the group urged the lawmakers to avoid any attempts to impeach the deputy governor in order to maintain peace in the state.

Emmanuel cautioned the legislators against this action, stating that the protests will continue until Governor Godwin Obaseki and the lawmakers choose peace.

On the other hand, the press secretary to the deputy governor, Musa Ebomhiana, revealed that efforts are being made to resolve the issue.

“The PDP as a party has stepped in as a family to resolve the matter. The umbrella is big enough to accommodate everyone,” he said.
