Amidst escalating concern, reports suggest that Murja Kunya, a well-known TikTok personality, has purportedly fled from the Kano correctional facility.
This development follows a decision by the Shari’ah Court, situated in the Gama PRP area of the Kano metropolis, to remand her to the Kurmawa correctional facility.
The court’s ruling came after Murja Kunya’s arrest by the Kano State Hisbah Board, prompted by complaints from neighbors regarding alleged immoral conduct.
Accused of indecency and attempting to entice young girls into prostitution, Murja Kunya was brought before the court, which ordered her detention until February 21, 2024.
However, Muzammil Ado Ibrahim Fagge, spokesperson for the court, expressed astonishment at the reported escape, asserting that the judge would consider bail on February 20th. Fagge reiterated the court’s firm stance on the matter, citing past instances involving Murja Kunya.
In contrast, Musbahu Kofar Nassarawa, spokesperson for the Kano Correctional Centre, refuted claims of an escape, stating that Murja Kunya’s release followed a court order. Nassarawa underscored the adherence to established procedures within the correctional facility, emphasizing the necessity of official documentation for both admission and release.
Meanwhile, an official from the Kano Hisbah command reaffirmed their commitment to combating immorality in the state, signaling that the reported incident would not diminish their ongoing efforts.
