President Bola Tinubu announced on Wednesday that the military personnel killed in Okuama, a community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, will receive national honours.

He made this statement during the breaking of the Ramadan fast in Abuja on Wednesday with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the House leadership.

The President emphasized the importance of oversight in ensuring transparency and accountability in governance, but also cautioned against excessive summoning of officials, which can disrupt operations and impede service delivery to citizens.

Speaking to the group, the Commander-in-Chief expressed sympathy for the military and the families of the deceased. He assured that the victims who had passed away would receive a proper burial.

He then encouraged lawmakers to use caution when carrying out their oversight duties.

“The baby step being taken by our country is doing well. The sacrifices we have made and we ask the people to continue to make, assuring them that there is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel.

“All you have to do is to have faith. Pls don’t forget your constituencies, remember what they are going through. We salute all our men and women in uniform and we sympathise with them.

“I will soon make further pronouncements. They must have a befitting burial and they must have national honour.”

Tinubu praised the National Assembly for their commitment to good governance and highlighted the positive relationship between the executive and legislature.

He noted that this cooperation had led to the quick passing of important bills to benefit the people of Nigeria.

The President encouraged legislators to remember their constituents and use the month of Ramadan to help those in need.
