Akanni Azeez Olawale, an SS3 student at Agbara Grammar School in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, along with his parents, reportedly assaulted the school principal, Ajibola Olanrewaju, and another teacher, Dr. Salau Adewale.

The incident occurred because they were warned about his disrespectful behavior.

The principal and teachers were attacked because the student was accused of showing a lack of respect for the school’s authority.

The principal, who was assaulted, stated that Olawale’s uniform was confiscated after he was caught engaging in disruptive behavior at the school.

Olawale reportedly misbehaved after enrolling for the May/June West African Senior Secondary School Examinations at a different private school.

A teacher, who preferred not to be named, stated that Olawale became angry when his uniform was confiscated, and he then went to get his parents to confront the principal and other teachers at the school.

During the altercation, Olawale slapped one teacher and ripped another teacher’s clothing.

Upset by these actions, Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbab, announced that the student and his parents will face legal consequences for their disruptive behavior.

Confirming the incident over the phone, the commissioner informed the reporter that his office had been informed about the situation.

He said, “Yes I am aware of the incident, it is condemnable and such won’t be allowed in our schools. I am in touch with the relevant authorities and I can tell you that the boy and his parents will be prosecuted.

“I learnt that the parents are already begging but I have insisted that they will get to court. It is a challenge that we have had in the past when some of these parents were joining their children to attack the teachers, but since one of the parents had six months of community service, the rubbish has stopped.

“So, for this one too, the state government will prosecute those involved. That is the only way to send signals to others that may want to travel this unpopular and crude way.”

The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Ogun State, Seun Agbesanwa, also commented on the development and criticized the actions of the accused individuals.
