The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 42-year-old individual who was allegedly transporting a large quantity of hidden opioid pills to a stronghold of insurgents in the Banki region of Borno State.
According to Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for the NDLEA, the suspect is one of 24 individuals accused of engaging in drug trafficking throughout the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Babafemi stated that these operations resulted in the confiscation of more than 7,609 kilograms of various illegal drugs in eight different states.
In addition to the aforementioned arrest, law enforcement officials have also detained a pregnant woman in her sixth month, a mother of three children, and three other women during significant interception operations.
Based on the statement, the majority of the confiscations took place in Nasarawa State. On Sunday, February 4th, NDLEA agents intercepted a truck with the registration number Lagos JJJ 64 YC. The truck was carrying 367 large bags of cannabis sativa, weighing a total of 4,037 kilograms. The illicit substance was being transported from Akure, Ondo State, with the intention of delivering it to the Shabu area in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
Three individuals, namely Shuaibu Yahaya Liman (35 years old), Monday Audu (33 years old), and Linus Samuel (42 years old), were apprehended in connection with this seizure.
In Abuja, the authorities from NDLEA apprehended Jibrin Shuaibu, aged 23, and Prosper Innih, aged 17, on Monday, February 5.
The individuals were caught with a total of 169 bags and 80 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa, weighing a combined 1,961.5 kilograms. The contraband was cleverly concealed in a truck bearing the registration number Ogun WDE 557 XC.
