Fast-rising global Afrobeat sensation Divine Ikubor, widely known as Rema, has expressed his conviction that his artistic legacy will endure for decades.
He stated this while speaking with host Nandi Madiba on Apple Music Africa Now Radio, Rema discussed the evolution of his sound and his commitment to creating timeless art.
Rema emphasised that for him, music is not merely a process of combining elements; it’s a calling. He sees himself as a vessel chosen to make a lasting impact on the world through his art.
Rema shared his perspective, stating, “When you’re blessed with a gift, it’s beyond making it seem logical. To me, it’s more like a spirit thing; it’s not like a brain thing, and it’s not like a thought process.” He described his creative process as internal, guided by a voice in his head, positioning himself as a vessel destined to leave a significant mark.
Known for his avant-garde artistic choices in visuals and fashion, Rema collaborates with other creatives to bring innovative ideas to life. He expressed his support for fellow creatives, highlighting the importance of investing in youth and bringing their unique concepts to fruition.
Rema’s collaboration with Selena Gomez on the track “Calm Down” has achieved a remarkable feat by holding the number one position on the Global Billboard 100 for an unprecedented number of weeks, solidifying its place in history as a groundbreaking success.
Rema’s intentional approach to his art extends beyond immediate success; he aims for longevity. He envisions his influence reaching far into the future, with people tracing back songs, fashion styles, visuals, and more to his impact. He stated, “I want to be able to touch all areas of life, but music is like the first rocket. When it detaches, it goes wherever it needs to go.”
Rema has recently dropped an EP titled “RAVAGE,” featuring tracks such as ‘DND’ and Trouble Maker, among others, that are already gaining popularity.
