Major General Victor Okwudili Ezugwu, well known for developing the Ezugwu Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, and 112 other generals have restired from the Nigerian Army.

Major General Ezugwu was honoured for his vital role in developing the Ezugwu MRAP, a critical asset that improves the military’s operating capabilities by offering enhanced protection against mines and ambushes.

One full General, one Lieutenant General, 67 Major Generals, and 44 Brigadier Generals are among the outgoing officers.

Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru thanked the departing officers for their everlasting dedication and sacrifices towards creating stability in Nigeria during a Regimental Dinner Night hosted in their honour in Abuja.

The minister stated that the occasion allowed the Nigerian Army to reflect on its service and profound dedication as demonstrated by retired and retiring senior officers, adding that experiences and skills gained while in service, as well as respect for diversity, which has been their working principle throughout their career, will provide them with a veritable platform as they exit the service.

He stated that the federal government will continue to do all possible to enhance the lives of serving and retired soldiers.

Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), urged the retired senior officers to thank God and the Nigerian Army for a successful sojourn in the ‘noble profession of arms’ and attaining the point of meritorious disengagement from active service.

Major General Ezugwu delivered the vote of appreciation on behalf of the retired generals, thanking the COAS for the honour and promising that they will continue to be excellent ambassadors of the Nigerian Army even after retirement.
