According to a source close to Paris Saint-Germain, France captain Kylian Mbappe has informed the club officials that he plans to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old, who joined PSG from Monaco in 2017, had previously extended his contract until 2024 but chose not to activate a clause that would have allowed him to stay for an additional year.

It is widely speculated that Mbappe will join Real Madrid, and sources suggest that negotiations with the Spanish club have already begun.

“The terms of the departure have yet to be fully agreed,” the source said, adding that the club and Mbappe will make an official statement “when everything is finalised in the next few months”.

PSG did not provide a comment when contacted by AFP.

Mbappe will be leaving PSG without any transfer fee, but the club will be somewhat relieved by an agreement made last summer.

This agreement entails Mbappe forgoing bonuses worth approximately 60 to 70 million euros ($65.6 million to $76.6 million).

After spending seven seasons at PSG and becoming their all-time leading scorer, Mbappe appears to be on the verge of joining his childhood dream club, Real Madrid.

Real Madrid has openly expressed their desire to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu. President Florentino Perez has attempted to sign Mbappe in 2019, 2021, and 2022, but has been rejected each time. PSG, having already lost Neymar and Lionel Messi in the previous year, now faces a new era of uncertainty with the departure of their main star.
