Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Edo State marched through the streets of Benin City on Monday to protest the current economic difficulties facing Nigerians.
The protesters held up signs with messages like “End Economic Hardship” and “FG End the Hunger in Nigeria Now” to voice their concerns during the demonstration.
The protest in Benin City comes after similar demonstrations in Ibadan and Lagos, where residents showed their dissatisfaction with the rising food prices and the high cost of living.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) recently announced plans to hold a nationwide protest starting tomorrow.
The NLC’s decision to protest is based on the government’s alleged failure to follow through on agreements made on October 2, 2023, after the removal of the fuel subsidy.
The NLC’s 14-day ultimatum to address the widespread hardship has led to various groups and individuals expressing their discontent through peaceful protests across the country.
