Nigerian comedic talent and artist, Oderhwo Joseph Efe, widely recognised as Carter Efe, recently unveiled an unexpected chapter of his journey to stardom—his former occupation as a tailor before venturing into the world of entertainment.

The ‘Machala’ crooner emphasised that his comedic abilities were ingrained in him from birth.

In an engaging conversation on the Hip TV program “Trending,” hosted by reality star KimOprah, Carter Efe provided insights into his early passion for art, leading him to pursue tailoring at a certain juncture in his life. Sharing his comedic roots, he reminisced, “I have been funny right from birth. I’ve been doing stand-up comedy since I was in school,” recounting moments during school breaks when he effortlessly entertained his classmates, showcasing his innate humor.

Before making a mark in skit creation, Carter Efe briefly worked as a London tailor known as ‘Obioma.’ Despite facing challenges, such as fabricating illness to shoot skits during work hours and enduring punishments from his boss, his determination to pursue creativity remained unshaken.

Carter Efe recounted a pivotal moment when he participated in a challenge initiated by fellow comedian Broda Shaggi on Instagram. Emerging victorious, he received a PS5 as a prize, which he later sold for N300,000. This financial boost prompted him to relocate to Lagos, where he utilised the funds for transportation to shoot skits at various locations.

Reflecting on his early days in Lagos, Carter Efe shared, “I was using the N300,000 for transport fares to go to locations to shoot my skit. I was staying with one of my friends then.” This period marked a crucial phase in his career, laying the foundation for his subsequent ascent in the Nigerian entertainment landscape.
