A female staff member of the University of Ilesa in Osun State tragically passed away on Wednesday when a truck carrying a container filled with cashew nuts fell on her car.
The incident occurred on the Ilesa/Ibodi Expressway, near the university’s entrance, causing panic as bystanders tried to rescue the victim trapped in her vehicle.
The accident led to a traffic jam on the busy road as the vehicles involved blocked part of the expressway.
According to sources at the university, the victim was on her way home from work when the truck lost control and the container landed on her car.
A senior staff member of the university, who requested to remain anonymous, told the media that a truck carrying a container filled with cashew nuts trapped the vehicle driven by their colleague.
“The woman left campus after the day’s work. She was driving towards town when the accident occurred. She is feared dead.”
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osun State, Kehinde Adeleke, also confirmed the accident and stated that the deceased was found dead in her car.
She said, “Our operatives and other security agencies were at the scene of the accident. The driver of the car, a woman died.”
