The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, paid a visit to the family of the late Governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Thursday.

Aiyedatiwa, along with members of the State Executive Council, went to Akeredolu’s residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, to express their condolences to his family.

The newly sworn-in Governor promised to honour and remember Akeredolu, who passed away on Wednesday after a long illness.

He acknowledged that Akeredolu’s contributions and influence can be seen and felt throughout the state and the country.

The governor praised his former boss, who has passed away, as a sincere, courageous, selfless, and patriotic leader. He fought for his people, promoted development, and had a positive impact on many lives.

Aiyedatiwa, in an emotional tribute, also described the former governor as a caring and compassionate husband, father, and grandfather. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have learned from him.

Aiyedatiwa emphasised that the loss of his late boss is significant not only for Ondo State but also for the Southwest region and Nigeria as a whole. He highlighted that Akeredolu’s dedication to creating a peaceful, fair, and just society will always be remembered.

The governor said that the late Akeredolu’s contributions to the socio-economic and infrastructural development of Ondo State, the growth of the Anglican Church, and the reforms in the legal profession in Nigeria will have a lasting impact.

He emphasised that Akeredolu successfully completed his mission on earth and was blessed with children who will uphold his good name.

In response, Pastor Kola Akeredolu, the younger brother of the deceased, expressed gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa and the delegation for their considerate visit on behalf of the Akeredolu family. Prayers were offered for the Akeredolu family, and Governor Aiyedatiwa led others in signing the condolence register.
