Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has ordered that Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), be held in Kuje prison until his bail request is determined.

The court will deliver a ruling on his bail motion on November 22.

Emefiele’s lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa SAN, submitted the bail application, which was opposed by Rotimi Oyedepo on behalf of the Federal Government.

Justice Muazu, after considering arguments from both sides, stated that a bench ruling could not be given due to the numerous authorities cited by the parties.

The Judge expressed the need for some time to examine the authorities and review the evidence provided by Emefiele in support of his bail request.

Currently, officials from the Kuje prison authority have been contacted to arrange transportation for him to the prison.
