EPL: Brighton Host Brentford To A Goalless Draw In A Tightly Contested Affair

Published:

Brentford and Brighton will both see the 0-0 draw in the Premier League match at the Gtech Community Stadium as a missed opportunity.

Brighton had the best chances towards the end of the game, with Danny Welbeck’s shot blocked by Kristoffer Ajer and then missing a chance in stoppage time.

Ivan Toney couldn’t get Brentford going, and Brighton’s penalty appeal was denied after a VAR check just before halftime.

Despite extending Brentford’s winless streak to eight league matches, Thomas Frank’s team moved further away from the relegation zone as Luton Town lost 2-0 to Arsenal.

Brighton missed an opportunity to move up in the standings after Newcastle United and West Ham drew on Tuesday, leaving them in ninth place.

Yoane Wissa missed a chance in the 11th minute, while his strike partner Ivan Toney’s shot was weak and easily saved by Bart Verbruggen.

The game only picked up in intensity towards the end of the first half. VAR Michael Oliver asked referee Andy Madley to review a possible foul by Wissa on Lewis Dunk in Brentford’s penalty area, but after looking at the replays, the referee decided not to award Brighton a penalty kick.

The frantic end to the first half did not lead to any momentum carrying over into the second half.

It wasn’t until the 87th minute that either team had a chance to score. Brighton’s substitute Welbeck had a great opportunity to score from close range, but Ajer made a fantastic intervention to block the shot.

Welbeck had another chance in stoppage time, but he couldn’t stay calm and missed the opportunity. Both teams had to settle for a result that didn’t benefit either of them.
