The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is set to bring businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, to court on April 17, 2024.
He is facing charges of mishandling the Nigerian currency. Cubana Chief Priest will appear before Justice Kehinde Ogundare at the Federal High Court in Lagos to answer to three counts of allegedly spraying and tampering with naira notes at a social gathering, which goes against the Central Bank Act of 2007.
The charges were filed on April 4 by the EFCC’s prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo, along with seven other lawyers representing the commission’s chairman.
The accusation states that on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel, Cubana Chief Priest sprayed N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria for two hours while dancing at a social event, violating Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
In count 2, it was alleged “that you, Okechukwu Pascal sometime in 2020, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”
In Count 3, it was alleged: “that you, Okechukwu Pascal sometime in January 2024, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying the same and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”
On April 5, the EFCC successfully convicted the well-known cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, who is also known as Bobrisky. He was sentenced to six months in prison for the same charges.
