Men believed to be operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly conducted a late-night operation at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State.

According to reports, student lodges were invaded around 2 a.m.

Several students have taken to social media, sharing videos and claiming that the individuals broke into their rooms and apprehended some students.

Videos circulating on social media display damaged window frames, suggesting an attempted forced entry.

One social media user named J Brandy wrote, “I thought they said EFCC should not raid at night again. This hostel (Celebrity Lodge, FUTA ) is right behind mine. When will this endemic? EFCC (officials) moving like thieves at night!”

A video circulating online shows a man wearing an EFFC jacket.

In November, the Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, ordered that sting operations at night be stopped.

The directive came after the arrest of suspected internet fraudsters in Ile-Ife, Osun State, which caused nationwide outrage.

When contacted about the matter, the agency’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, asked to be called back in 20 minutes. However, he has not returned any calls as of the time of this publication.
