Tension erupted in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) clashed with Bureau De Change (BDC) operators on Monday.

The clash happened as part of efforts to stop the naira from losing value against major foreign currencies.

Reports say that the BDC operators were forced to close their businesses to try to prevent the naira from dropping further.

The naira had recently fallen to around N1,700 to a dollar and N2,100 to the British Pound.

EFCC officers used firearms to make the BDCs close today, but they faced strong resistance from the operators.
