The Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State is preparing to hear a case requesting a DNA test for Liam, the son of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as ‘Mohbad’.

This information was confirmed in a statement signed by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team.

Joseph Aloba, the father of the deceased singer, revealed that he had filed a lawsuit to request a DNA test for his grandson, Liam.

In the statement titled ‘Aloba family seeks court order for DNA test on Liam,’ Odumosu mentioned that all necessary legal arrangements were in place to ensure the success of the case.

The application, submitted to the Family Court of the Ikorodu Magistrate Court (MKD/31/FAM/2024) in the case of Joseph Aloba v. Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba, is requesting the court to order a DNA test to determine the paternity of Master Liam Aloba. The test will be carried out at a recognized and accredited government or private medical facility in Lagos State, Nigeria, with the applicant covering the costs.

Furthermore, the family is asking for an order for Mrs. Omowunmi Aloba to participate in the DNA test along with Master Liam Aloba. The application also seeks permission for the chief pathologist in charge of the remains of Mohbad, currently at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, to collect samples from the deceased’s body for a DNA test related to Liam.

The statement also mentioned an unsuccessful attempt to deliver court documents to Mohbad’s wife at their Lekki home on Friday, March 8. The legal team said they would try other methods to make sure all court documents are properly delivered.

Mohbad’s death at the age of 27 caused a lot of discussion on social media. He used to be signed to Marlian Music, which is owned by Naira Marley. Mohbad leaving the label in February 2022 raised questions. The Lagos State Police Command set up a 13-person team to investigate the singer’s death on September 18, 2023. This investigation led to the arrest of Naira Marley and Balogun Eletu (SamLarry), a controversial Lagos socialite, among others.

Mohbad’s body was dug up for an autopsy on September 21, 2023, to find out the cause of his death.

The police confirmed that the autopsy has been completed and they are waiting for the results.
