The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order to stop the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from denying Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State the Certificate he is currently using.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment on Monday, stated that the evidence presented in court proved that Mbah participated in the NYSC program and was issued a certificate of completion.

Justice Ekwo also found that the NYSC provided false information by claiming that they did not issue the certificate that Mbah submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prior to the last governorship election.

The judge criticized the NYSC for not providing two files to the court that contained information about Mbah’s participation in the program. The judge also noted that the NYSC did not take the case seriously. Justice Ekwo ordered the NYSC to pay N5 million in damages to Mbah.

It should be noted that the Enugu governor was accused of forging his NYSC certificate in order to run for the governorship election on March 18, 2023.

Before his inauguration on May 29, Mbah sued the NYSC and its Director, Corps Certification, Ibrahim Muhammad, for publishing a disclaimer that denied issuing him a discharge certificate on January 6, 2003.

Justice Ekwo issued a restraining order on May 15, prohibiting the NYSC, Muhammad, and their agents from publishing any further content until the main issue is heard and resolved.
