Chelsea allegedly had a surprise £35 million ($44 million) deal for Manchester City forward Cole Palmer rejected before the transfer deadline on Friday.
According to The Guardian‘s Jacob Steinberg, Chelsea had a £35 million proposal for Palmer rejected by City, as Mauricio Pochettino attempts to finalize his roster before the summer market closes.
The team has already acquired ten players this summer, including forwards Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, but boss Mauricio Pochettino would like to add another attacker.
Palmer is still only 21 years old, and while he has made 41 senior appearances for treble winners City, only 13 have been starts. He has also only scored six goals and is presently ranked behind Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez in the squad pecking order, but it appears that the club is unwilling to make a deal. This summer has seen a number of departures from the Etihad Stadium, including Riyad Mahrez, Mateo Kovacic, and Aymeric Laporte.
Chelsea must decide whether to make a second formal proposal for Palmer after their initial offer was rejected.
