Several federal civil servants confirmed on Tuesday that the Federal Government has begun paying the November 2023 wage award.

This payment is part of the agreement between organized labor and the government to help offset the impact of removing the subsidy on petrol.

Initially, the government had suspended the wage award payments, which received criticism from activists and other stakeholders.

However, recent reports indicate that the government has reduced the wage award allocation by N100bn in the 2023 supplementary budget.

The Nigeria Labour Congress criticized the government’s actions as dishonorable, while the Trade Union Congress warned that civil servants should be paid their wage awards or face the possibility of industrial action.

According to a senior civil servant who spoke to PUNCH Online, some civil servants have already begun receiving their wage awards for November 2023.

“Payment came in this morning, others have also confirmed receipt in my agency,” the source said.

Another senior civil servant at a Federal Government-owned school near Abuja, according to The PUNCH, also verified the news, stating, “Yes, the wage award for November 2023 has been disbursed.”

After receiving an ultimatum from organized labor, Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, mentioned that the government would resume the payment of the wage awards.</p>
