The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, announced Thursday that nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the recent killings of police officers in the Ughelli area of Delta State.
Egbetokun made this announcement during a management meeting of the Force on Thursday.
The arrested individuals are currently providing the Force with valuable information that will help in apprehending others involved in the killings.
It was reported that six police officers were killed at Ohoro Forest in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on February 23, 2024.
Additionally, six other suspects linked to the killings are still on the run. These incidents occurred around the same time as the murder of 17 military personnel in the oil-rich Delta State.
The soldiers were killed while on a peace mission in the Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area. This incident caused nationwide outrage and condemnation.
During their burial last week, military authorities promised to find those responsible for the attack. They also stated that this event will not stop them from fighting against criminals in the country.
President Bola Tinubu awarded posthumous national honors to the soldiers and provided scholarships for their children.
