One person has been confirmed dead and multiple shops have been destroyed following a fire that swept through Gusau Central Market in the state capital of Zamfara, Nigeria.

The fire started at approximately 9 p.m. on Tuesday night in the furniture section of the market, which happens to be the largest in the state capital.

The Nigerian Fire Service responded promptly, and firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the night to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other shops.

Unfortunately, they were unable to save the life of a shop owner who tragically died while trying to enter his shop and put out the fire himself.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
