President Joe Biden of the United States has officially declared Easter Sunday as the “Transgender Day of Visibility.”
The International Transgender Day of Visibility was established on March 31, 2009, and has been observed every year on that date since.
This day is meant to recognize and celebrate transgender individuals while also bringing attention to the discrimination they still experience.
The White House revealed that Biden’s proclamation is supported by the US Constitution.
According to Biden: “Now, therefore, I, Joseph R. Biden Jr., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility.
“I call upon all Americans to join us in lifting up the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our nation and to work towards eliminating violence and discrimination based on gender identity.”
Since the beginning, the Biden administration has prioritized LGBT activism as an important part of its policies.
President Biden proudly announced that he has appointed transgender leaders to his administration and lifted the ban on transgender Americans serving openly in the military.
However, some of Biden’s events promoting transgender inclusivity at the White House have not gone as planned in the past.
On the other hand, LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) individuals have been advised to avoid Nigeria.
This warning was issued by Muyiwa Adejobi, a spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force, who stated that the police would be targeting LGBTQ individuals in Nigeria.
Adejobi specifically mentioned that LGBTQ members participating in the “Of Course” challenge would not be safe in Nigeria, labeling them as “criminals.”
A video has been circulating showing alleged members of the LGBTQ community explaining their identities and addressing common misconceptions about them.
