Controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi recently had a meeting with security agencies to discuss how to reduce the activities of bandits in the North.

This meeting took place after the Minister of Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, mentioned that Gumi would be questioned about his involvement with bandits in the North.

The minister emphasized that Gumi is not exempt from the law and would face consequences if his statements were deemed irresponsible by security agencies.

Despite this, Gumi, who is based in Kaduna, stated that only the innocent should be considered above the law.

Giving an update about the meeting on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Gumi said: “Only one person is above the law: the innocent.

“Last night I got many frantic calls from well-wishers and journalists about a news item that I was interviewed by security. There is absolutely no cause for alarm.

“Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to curb banditry as we are all trying — each in his own sphere — to tackle the monster bedevilling the nation. There was no animosity but courtesy and full of respect.

“We all need as a nation to unite and work in synergy to achieve an everlasting peace.”
