Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League title took a hit after a disappointing 2-0 loss to Aston Villa at home.
This defeat now puts Manchester City two points ahead with only six games left in the season. Despite Arsenal having a better first half, they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
Villa dominated the second half and scored two late goals, with Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins finding the back of the net in the 84th and 87th minutes. Watkins also hit the post earlier in the game, while Youri Tielemans had a close shot that hit the post and crossbar.
Arsenal had a great opportunity with Leandro Trossard just before half-time, but former Gunners keeper Emi Martinez made an incredible save with his right foot.
The Gunners showed some promising play in the first half, especially with Martin Odegaard performing well, but Villa’s strong defense kept thwarting their efforts.
In the second half, Arsenal aimed higher and controlled the game’s pace, making the home crowd anxious.
Despite knowing that a 0-0 draw wouldn’t be satisfactory, things were about to take a turn for the worse at the Emirates.
