Odegaard Nets Early Goal As Arsenal Secure Premier League Top Spot With Dominant Performance Against Luton

Published:

Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League table in their pursuit of their first title since 2004 with a convincing 2-0 victory over struggling Luton Town at the Emirates.

Manager Mikel Arteta made five changes from their previous match, including giving Reiss Nelson his first league start in four years.

Despite Luton Town’s injury troubles, they put up a fight but were ultimately outplayed.

Captain Martin Odegaard scored the first goal after receiving a pass from Kai Havertz, while Daiki Hashioka scored an own goal under pressure from Nelson off a cross from Emile Smith Rowe.

Arsenal did not score any more goals in the second half, but they now have 68 points from 30 matches, putting them one point ahead of their title rivals, Liverpool.

Liverpool will play against Sheffield United at Anfield on Thursday evening.

Manchester City is also just one point behind the leaders after beating Aston Villa 4-1.

England winger Bukayo Saka was unable to play in the match due to a tight hamstring, but Arsenal’s coach, Arteta, is hopeful that their top goal scorer will be back for the game against Brighton on Saturday night.

Luton is still struggling in 18th place after suffering their 11th consecutive league loss against Arsenal. They are three points behind Nottingham Forest, who are currently in 17th place.

Luton’s next important match will be at home against Bournemouth at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.
