Patrick Doyle, a veteran Nollywood actor, has remarked that Nigerian artist Burna Boy has not achieved anything noteworthy in the music industry.

This comes only a week after Burna Boy told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that afrobeat is “literally nothing and has no lyrical substance.”

Visitodell reports that the actor stated that Burna Boy’s fame is unjustified in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

He made this statement while discussing the importance of Burna and his contemporaries remaining modest and respecting forefathers like Sunny Ade, Mabel Fashek, and the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Patrick Doyle wrote: “The credit for the feats that appear to be puffing the likes of Burna Boy up have to be properly ascribed to the greats who cleared the thorny paths that have created pathways for his likes.

“Burna Boy has not by himself done anything that can be remotely described as great. He and his peers are recipients of the labours of heroes’ past. They need to be humble and respectful of their diligent and truly pioneering predecessors like SunnyAde, Majek Fashek, Ik Dairo and the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

“Greatness and great feats don’t exist in a vacuum. Let us not contribute to the creation of an arrogant and obnoxious monster.”
